Following a Training Program for better results.

Getting into the gym 2-4 times per week is a great effort. However, you could be leaving progress at the door if you’re not following a structured training program,. By this we mean a program where you and/or your trainer is programming the sessions and recording your progress. Here’s why this is important.

PROGRESS & ADAPTATION

To set you up for success, your program should be specific to your goal. Whether this is fat loss, building muscle or strength, having a personalised program will direct your efforts and focus these on a specific outcome. This alone is going to have a positive impact on your results.

Recording the weights, reps and sets you’re able to complete also allows you to see progression. Systematically increasing the challenge in your sessions is also important to see the progress you want. This doesn’t always have to be the weight you use, but seeking an increased demand from your trainining is key to avoiding plateaus.

INJURY PREVENTION & RECOVERY

A training program allows for structured, well-balanced training sessions to be written and followed. Ensuring all muscle groups are worked evenly and in line with your training goals. The weekly structure should also allow you to train consistently and at the intensity required to see the results you want.

Your training program will also put you in the best position to achieve success with exercise selection. For example, if you have always struggled with a barbell back squat, a personalised program will allow you to find a movement that is suitably challenging and remove the frustration of specific exercises in preference to those that allow you to get the most benefit out of certain movements.

ACCOUNTABILITY & LONG-TERM SUCCESS

Your program will allow you to track your progress, see milestones and acts as a strong motivator over time.

Strength training by nature is repetitive. It needs to be. A structured program offers a comprehensive and effective approach. Having both internal and external accountability can put you in a much better position to achieve your goals.
